This website is an interactive introduction to the rich musical heritage of Milwaukee. Created in partnership with the Milwaukee County Historical Society, it is a tribute to Melodies and Memories: 200 Years of Milwaukee Music, an exhibit of artifacts, images, and information that took place at the MCHS from January through April 2017. Extensive and wide-ranging, Melodies and Memories covered the evolution of music in Milwaukee, from Native American music and polka to jazz, rock, and punk. The Applied History seminar at Marquette University created this website as a perpetual home for the exhibit's highlights and its goal of engaging people of all ages in the unique contributions Milwaukee has made to American music. Explore and enjoy!
The exhibit featured artifacts and information regarding Milwaukee musical education, ethnic music, art music, popular music, the music industry, and music venues.
